Updates November 10th 2012

Happy Birthday Friends of Bianca:

On November 5, Friends of Bianca celebrated its first year anniversary.  Substantial funds have been sent to Portugal over the past year and the donations of everyone involved has helped to improve and extend the shelter, work that was urgently needed because of the 300 + dogs it accommodates.

Scotland & Canada Sponsored Dog Walks

On September 16 in Aberdeen Scotland two sponsored dog walks were held in which approximately 30 walkers and their dogs participated. The day was overcast and threatened rain but did not dash the spirits of those who came out to support Bianca.   One dog walker came all the way from Canada, 3000 miles away to walk Mike's dog Anna, who refused to move from the path once her master left and insisted on turning back and following in his footsteps!

A similar sponsored dog walk was held in Kitchener Ontario Canada on October 13 in which 8 people and 9 dogs participated.  Again, the day threatened rain but did not stop the event from taking place.  The grand total for both the Scottish and Canadian walk was over 3000 GBP thanks to the generosity of so many sponsors, both from Scotland and Canada.

Catoctin Creek Whisky Bottling Day

On August 18, 20 people gathered at Catoctin Creek Whisky Distillery in Virginia, the first legal distillery since prohibition, to bottle, cap, seal and label a run of legal "Virginia Moonshine".  Many personal messages became part of the label on the bottles.  The participants enjoyed lunch together and took home a souvenir bottle to remember the day.

Virginia Highland Games

On September 1& 2 Kathy Carbone had a booth at the Highland Games in Virginia where she sold Spice's Punkin Pi Dog Biscuits and displayed the new Friends of Bianca banner.  Kathy was assisted by Lauraileen O'Connor, a very generous donor to Bianca.  Between The Whisky Bottling event and the Highland Games, $800.00 was raised.  Way to go Kathy and Laurailee!

Second "Evening For Bianca"

On October 27 in Broughty Ferry Scotland (near Dundee), a second "Evening for Bianca" was held. The guests enjoyed wine and cheese as well as first rate entertainment provided by Malcolm, Michelle, Lynne and the cast of Five Pound & Twa Bairns, Sue, Christine, Carol, Scott, Kris and Sinclair. Auction prizes were donated by Godfrey Mordente Photography and Scott McRuvie's Drama School. Elaine Hackney worked very hard to help make the event run smoothly.  The 55 guests who came and supported Bianca generously provided the charity with an additional 650 GBP!
